Retirement of Cost and Compliance Modules

The Cost and Compliance modules of Stax are being shut down in March 2025.

The other modules of Stax, including Foundation, Accounts, Networks, Workloads, and Identity will continue to operate as normal.

Why the change?​

As we continue to innovate and enhance our offerings, we must make strategic decisions to focus our resources on areas that will bring the most value to our customers. This means investing in features that align with the evolving needs of our industry and our user base, and deprecating or removing those features that do not.

Amazon Web Services now provides comprehensive cost and compliance tooling as part of built-in AWS capabilities and services. These features are under active development and already provide capabilities on par with, and in many cases, exceeding Stax's. Our recommendation is for customers to migrate to utilizing this tooling to meet their cost and compliance management goals.

Transition Plan​

We understand that this change may impact your operations, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. The Cost and Compliance modules will stop ingesting new data on 3 March 2025, becoming read only at that point. On 31 March 2025 the Cost and Compliance modules will no longer be available in the Stax Console. See Understanding the shutdown timeline below for a more detailed breakdown of the changes.

To ensure continuity in your operations, consider the documents below when looking for alternatives:

Understanding the shutdown timeline​

From 1 March 2025​

  • No new cost data will be ingested into Stax, instead only importing updates of the February 2025 CUR as AWS finalises it
  • No new compliance data will be ingested into Stax
  • Notifications will no longer be sent by Stax (this includes notifications for cost spike alerts, weekly summaries, compliance alerts, and the like). Notification configuration will be accessible for the purpose of migrating notification configuration to another tool
  • Much of the console functionality will become read only so changes cannot be made. For example, you will no longer be able to:
    • Change the organization budget
    • Change the date of the beginning of your organization's financial year
    • Create Rules from the Catalog
    • Modify the configuration of existing Rules
    • Remove/disable Rules
    • Activate/deactivate Rule Bundles
    • Edit or delete notifications
    • Configure Views
  • You will still be able to interact with the Cost Dashboard, Raw Data, and Comparative Data pages, including toggling Financial Mode

For organizations subscribed only to the Stax Cost & Compliance modules, you will retain the ability to invite/remove users during this period.

From 31 March 2025​

  • For organizations subscribed only to the Stax Cost & Compliance modules, you will no longer be able to log in to Stax.
  • For organizations subscribed to the Stax platform, you will retain access to Stax, though the Cost and Compliance modules will no longer be available in the console. The Cost, Wastage, Compliance, and Notifications items will be removed from the left-hand nav
