Manage Rule Bundles

warning
This module is being shut down in March 2025. See Shutdown of Cost and Compliance Modules for more information.

Adding Rule Bundles to the Compliance module allows you to better organize Rules, as well as to easily deploy and manage industry best-practice Rule sets.

Before You Begin

  • Estimated time to complete: 5 minutes
  • Ensure you are a member of either the Admin or Cost & Compliance Admin role in Stax
  • Consider that when Rules are created as part of a Rule Bundle, it may trigger notifications for non-compliant rules based on your Notifications configuration

View Bundles

Review the list of Rule Bundles in Stax to evaluate which Rule Bundles are enabled, disabled, or have updates available to be deployed.

  1. Log in to the Stax Console
  2. Choose Compliance, then Bundles from the left-hand nav

This page displays all Rule Bundles and their current status.

  • Active Bundles shows Rule Bundles enabled in your organization
  • Available Bundles shows Rule Bundles that are available to be enabled in your organization
  • AUTO UPDATE denotes that this Rule Bundle has Auto Update enabled
  • Update Available next to the version number of a rule means that a new version of the Rule Bundle is available, but auto update is not enabled. This Rule Bundle must be manually updated or have auto update enabled

Add a Bundle

  1. Log in to the Stax console
  2. Choose Compliance, then Bundles from the left-hand nav
  3. Review the Rule Bundles under Available Bundles and choose the Bundle to enable. Click the bundle to display its Rules and configuration
  4. Configure the Rule Bundle for use:
    1. Deselect any Rules that are not appropriate for your environment
    2. For rules with parameters, expand the Rule's details and configure the appropriate settings
    3. Enable Auto update if appropriate
  5. Choose + Add Bundle to add the Rule Bundle to Stax

The Rule Bundle will now be visible and can be configured under Active Bundles on the Bundles page.

Modify an Existing Bundle

Modify the configuration of a Rule Bundle to alter Rule parameters, or to enable or disable automatic updates to the Bundle.

  1. Log in to the Stax Console
  2. Choose Compliance, then Bundles from the left-hand nav
  3. Locate the Rule Bundle to be configured under Active Bundles, then click it to open the Bundle's configuration page
  4. Configure the Rule Bundle for use:
    1. Deselect any Rules that are not appropriate for your environment
    2. For rules with parameters, expand the Rule's details and configure the appropriate settings
    3. Enable Auto update if appropriate

Changes will be applied immediately as you select them, there is no requirement to save the settings.

Remove a Bundle

  1. Log in to the Stax Console
  2. Choose Compliance, then Bundles from the left-hand nav
  3. Locate the Rule Bundle to be configured under Active Bundles, then click it to open the Bundle's configuration page
  4. Click Remove Bundle on the top right-hand side of the page. Confirm by clicking Remove. The Bundle and its associated Rules, including history, will be removed

If Rules are duplicated by another active Bundle (including the Organization Rules Bundle), the Rule and its history will remain until it is either removed from all Bundles, or all Bundles containing it are removed.

Keep Bundles Up To Date

Rule Bundles are versioned to support the addition and removal of rules within a Bundle, as well as to stay aligned to industry standards.

Auto update can be enabled or disabled for any Rule Bundle in Stax. It is controlled by the Auto update toggle on each Rule Bundle's configuration page.

With auto update disabled, a given Rule Bundle will stay locked to the specified version, unless a different version is manually activated by clicking the Activate button on a different version of the Rule Bundle.

Some Rule Bundles (such as those aligned to external standards) have auto updates turned off by default. If these Bundles have auto update enabled, they will be automatically updated to the latest version of the Bundle when it becomes available.

When upgrading or downgrading Rule Bundle versions, any compliance history is preserved for new versions of the same Rule.

Identify Bundles on the Rules Page

Rules that are part of a bundle will have a tag with the Bundle name next to the Rule name. This will help you quickly understand why that Rule is relevant and which Bundle it is in.

Filter the list of Rules by the Bundles that are enabled for your organization by using the drop-down at the top of the page.

The Organization Rules Bundle

When you add Rules from the Catalog, they're automatically added to the Organization Rules Bundle, which is a customizable Rule Bundle that contains all rules you've added outside of preconfigured Rule Bundles.
