Resolve a Client ID Mismatch When Linking Accounts

When using the Cost & Compliance module to link your AWS account to Stax, you may receive an error message: Stax Client ID Mismatch: The Stax Client ID in the CloudFormation template was edited. This error means that the Client ID entered when deploying the Stax IAM Role via the CloudFormation template was incorrect.

This guidance assumes you're subscribed to only the Stax Cost & Compliance module. If your AWS accounts are Stax-managed, Stax takes care of this for you.

This error occurs if you change the Stax Client ID entered into the Stax-provided External ID field on the AWS Create Stack page. To resolve it, restart the account linking process and choose the Open AWS Console button again. This will open the AWS Console to the Create Stack page with the CloudFormation template parameters prepopulated. Create the stack without modifying the external ID that is automatically populated.
